The HRC is teaming up with LA County and Social Services to promote LGBT adoptions. Now, it’s been legal for some time to allow same sex adoptions in California but just the fact that they will be PROMOTING it is a huge step for our community, especially on the heels of Prop. 8 and the other states who lost their rights in the elections. Read that article from HRC HERE. I must say that this is near and dear to my heart as we have adopted two beautiful little girls and often contemplate adding another. I know children are not for everyone in the gay community, but if this is something you have been thinking about, maybe now is the time to explore your options. At any given time there are 800,000 children in foster care in the United States. Opening your home to just one of those children would truly be a blessing to them and you. Even if you aren’t willing to make a life long commitment, you can always mentor or do foster care on a temporary basis. It’s not always easy and the road is not always without it’s bumps, I speak from experience, but you are definitely making a difference to an innocent child. If you think you might be interested in learning more contact your local Health and Human Services Agency Child Welfare division. I would also be willing to answer any questions you may have about the process. You can email me at [email protected].
