PFLAG Tulare-Kings Counties is pleased to announce that the speaker for our September 18 meeting will be
Father Geoff Farrow,
a Catholic priest who has served in Visalia and Fresno, among other locations, and whose career as an LGBT rights activist was launched in the summer of 2008 when he received a letter from his bishop instructing him to direct his Fresno parishioners to vote “Yes” on Proposition 8. He could not in good conscience advocate for Prop 8 as he understood the potential negative impact on the LGBT population and their families and friends. After he came out against Prop 8 from the pulpit the bishop suspended him as a priest. Since that time he has been active in the gay rights movement, campaigning against California’s Prop 8 in October, 2008, speaking at Fresno’s Meet in the Middle Rally in June 2009, in November, 2010, protesting “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” by chaining himself to the fence in front of the White House along with Lt. Dan Choi and eleven others, and blogging and speaking on gay rights and religion.
