Amy Shuklian – Mayor of Visalia
Come meet, greet, and enjoy Amy Suklian, Mayor of Visalia. She will entertain us for a short time with her outstanding humor….besides being Mayor and having a day job, she is also a comedienne.
Following her comedic act…..we will have some time to learn about the opportunities that exist for us to help in Visalia and gain visibility for the LGBTQ and straight alllies.
After returning to Visalia in 1999, Amy worked with the city staff and founded the first dog park. She then became more involved in the community, serving on the parks and recreation commission, parks and recreation foundation board, and Valley Oak SPCA board. In 2007 Amy was elected to the city council after one unsuccessful try in 2005. She began going to city council meetings in March of 2005 and seven years later can brag that she has never missed any of them. She was re-elected in 2011 and voted Mayor by her council peers in December 2011 for a two year term. Amy is the first council person in the history of the city to hold monthly open office hours for constituents to drop in or to make an appointment. She has been doing this since January 2010.
